See their powerful responses

Yet another police-related killing of a black man — the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling on July 5 — has prompted a powerful response from celebrities like Rihanna, Kanye West, and Justin Timberlake.

Sterling, a 37-year-old father of five, was killed by Baton Rouge police early Tuesday. He had been selling CDs outside of a convenience store when police apprehended him for reportedly making threats. Disturbing cell phone footage from a bystander shows Sterling being pinned down by two white officers and shot repeatedly.

Katy Perry — the most followed person on Twitter with over 90 million followers — used her massive platform to tweet the graphic video of Sterling being shot. “You can't just go on with your day, you must watch this & we must face this continual outrageousness,” she wrote.

Perry’s not the only one who’s spoken out about police brutality in the wake of Sterling’s death. Olivia Wilde implored her followers, “don’t rationalize murder,” Paramore’s Hayley Williams said police “MUST require real accountability,” and Zendaya reminded everyone, “BLACK. LIVES. MATTER.” Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake called Sterling’s death “devastating,” Amy Schumer sent “love to Louisiana,” and Nick Jonas offered his prayers to Sterling’s loved ones. Several artists from the hip-hop community also posted powerful responses, with Kanye West tweeting a link to the video of Sterling's death, Fabolous sharing his sadness that "5 kids are growing up without their father," and Meek Mill declaring, "#imreadytostandup."

Rihanna took a different approach to addressing Sterling’s death, opting to share a moving video of a mom talking about the shooting with her kids in the backseat of their car. Rih captioned the post, “RIP Alton Sterling #howmanymore.”
